Pain Management

Manager: Dr. Mehrdad Taheri (more information)

Today, with advances in medical science and the global rise in life expectancy, there is a growing interest in quality of life. Since pain is considered the fifth vital sign in the world's science and health communities, effective treatment of acute and chronic pain through modern scientific approaches have received considerable attention. It is also important to set up an independent ward to reliably monitor acute and chronic pain in every hospital and treatment center.

Fellowship of pain: It is a clinical specialty and although it has been practicing in Iran for several years, in other countries, including the United States, it has been practiced for more than 50 years. The pain specialist investigates and studies the forms of acute and chronic pain syndromes and then attempts to treat such syndromes through clinical examinations and paraclinical methods.

Interventional pain management services are also included in this field of medicine, and some of these services are listed below:
  • Control of acute postoperative pain by intravenous or epidural pumps
  • Control of joint pain through intra-articular or periarticular injections of drugs, steroids, plasma, and radiofrequency joints
  • Control of muscle and bone pain by injection into painful areas and neural networks
  • Control of sympathetic and cancerous pain with neuro-laser or radiofrequency of the sympathetic chain
  • Control of spinal pain with laser intervertebral disc, radiofrequency of facet joints or intervertebral discs
  • Control of cancer pain by neuro-laser of affected nerves throughout the body and placement of drug infusion pumps in the intrathecal and epidural space
The primary goal of the pain clinic is to diagnose the cause of acute and chronic pain and also attempts to treat patients in non-invasive procedures that do not require general anesthesia, surgical incision, and long-term hospital care. Another important aim of the organization is to get patients back to their normal lives as soon as possible and to improve their quality of life in this regard. Post-visit diagnostic approaches are multidisciplinary and include the following:
  • Radiology (X-Ray)
  • Electrophysiology of muscle and nerve
  • Advanced MRI
  • CT Scan
  • Advanced diagnostic tests
  • laser disc decompression
